Washington---June 1st through 6th, 2010

Everywhere we stopped Chris and DeAnna told everyone who would listen that they were moving to Washington. As we headed north in Oregon they didn’t want to close their eyes for fear of missing Washington. As we drove over the bridge in Astoria, we pointed out the Welcome to Washington sign. They thought we should stop right there. Little did they know we were still quite a way from our final stop with them---Ft. Lewis.

Bobby and Cathy drove ahead so they could begin the search for a house. They caught up with us at McChord AFB just south of Tacoma.

We stayed at McChord long enough for them to find a house and for Bobby to sign in from his leave—five nights.

Bob and I planned in earnest for our trip into Canada and then to Alaska! We purchased items in the commissary to stock our cupboards.

While waiting at McChord, we took the kids geocaching and to a local park although they liked the playground at the Fam-Camp the best.

Laundry was another priority while we were at McChord. We washed everything.

It took the better part of a day to round up all the stuff for Bobby, Cathy, and the kids, that was stored in the rv.

We visited Bobby and Cathy’s new residence the day before we left. They have a nice house with a gas fireplace!

After saying goodbye to Bobby and family, we set off on our own. Bob wanted to cross the border at Sumas, Washington. We drove from McChord to Nooksack Casino (Lynden, Washington) just a few miles from Sumas on Sunday—we were hoping there would be less traffic on the interstate….not so!

The casino was small, but it had a nice parking area for rvs.

Lynden was a nice town with a Dutch influence.

Monday morning we crossed the border into Canada after filling the rv with gas and propane at Sumas. We didn’t have any trouble crossing. It took less than five minutes since there was only one vehicle in front of us!

While in Canada, we don’t have the use of our air card or our cellphones so we will be relying on wi-fi and e-mail to communicate with friends and family.
