We knew it would be a long day of driving when we left Ten Mile Lake Provincial Park. As always, we weren't sure where we would stop at the end of the day.
Our drive was picturesque through the mountains. We also saw a lot of road construction along the way. We were stopped several times for one way traffic through the mountains. During one of those stops, we decided to try to make it to Chetwynd. It was the first day of their Seventh Annual Chainsaw Carving competition. We made it to Chetwynd, but there was no place to camp or park for the night. We looked around the visitor center which had previous winners' sculptures on display.
Of all the sculptures on display, this was our favorite. Around the bottom of the sculpture are more fish watching as their friend is taken away.
Then we got in the rv and continued on to Dawson Creek.
It was late in the evening when we arrived so we unhooked the car and went in search of a place to stay. We ended up at Mile '0' RV Park. It wasn't at mile 0, but we did have a site with electric and water hook-ups!
The next morning we drove to Mile 0 of the Alaska Highway. There are 2 markers--one in the visitor center area........and another two blocks away in the center of town.
While in Dawson Creek, we did some geocaching and rested. On our second day, as we were walking around the park, we spotted 3 familiar looking coaches pulling into the rv park. Sure enough, it was the NC folks!
Saturday morning we stowed our gear, dumped our tanks and headed out for more adventure....
traveling the Alaska Highway.
