After leaving Dawson Creek, we hadn't been on the road long when we ended up behind a slow-moving, oversized load going uphill toward Peace River. We didn't want to follow it at 5 mph for any long distance so we pulled over at the first available pull-out. We had a great view of Peace River Bridge.
We gave the big load plenty of time to clear the bridge and then we continued on our way. First scheduled stop of the day, Fort St. John. They have a farmers' market every Saturday.
Well, in addition to the farmers' market, they were also having a Scottish Dance Contest in the park. We stopped to view the dancers before making our way to the market. The dancers turned out to be the best event of the day. The market was mostly crafts and a few plants for sale.During our trip we have made early stops to make sure we had a place to stay. This day was no exception. We stopped at Buckinghorse River Provincial Park between Fort St. John and Fort Nelson. Of course, we picked up a few geocaches along the way.We set up our rig and went exploring. We found a path behind our campsite that led to the river.Evidence of moose was everywhere, but we never saw the first one near the campground.
We stayed the night and were on our way again the next morning. Not long after we were on the road, we spotted a moose and her calf running next to the road.We wanted to stop in Fort Nelson, drive the car to Northwest Territories and then return to the rv. Our plan was scrapped when we couldn't find a safe place to leave the rv for an extended period. So on we went to Tetsa River Provincial Campground.
We only planned to stay one night and move a little further down the road. We were enjoying the sights, looking for animals. After a pleasant night at Tetsa River, we moved down the road toward Muncho Lake Provincial Park. Along the way, we saw our first stone sheep.Muncho Lake follows the highway for about 11 miles. It is a gorgeous greenish blue due to leaching of copper oxides from rocks forming the lake.We stopped for the night at MacDonald Campground. We had a site by the lake. While at MacDonald Campground in Muncho Lake Provincial Park, we wandered along the lake side to the Northern Rockies Lodge. It was a beautiful place, with beautiful prices--a cheese omelet was $15!We returned to our campsite and looked at the map for the next day. We weren't going far and I planned to really relax at the next place....Liard Hot Springs Provincial Park!
