Clinton to Williams Lake—June 8, 2010

After grabbing a quick geocache at Pioneer Cemetery, we left Clinton and traveled north toward Williams Lake.

We stopped at 100 Mile House Visitor Center. There are ‘Mile’ houses along the old Cariboo Waggon Trail. The houses were stopping places along the trail. Due to variations in terrain and travel conditions, the houses were arbitrarily set along the way. Their visitor center sported a pair of 39 ft. tall cross country skis!

From 100 Mile House we continued our trek north to Williams Lake. They also have an impressive visitor center.

There are many local displays inside. Bob and I both got a kick out of seeing the fully loaded car!

Next door to the visitor center was our parking spot for the night—Signal Point Gaming (casino). We pulled in and checked with the staff. As we were walking back to the rv, 3 diesel pushers from North Carolina pulled in to the parking area. All were towing Jeeps. They were also done driving for the day and looking for a place to park. We talked with Sarah and Chip. They left North Carolina about a week after we left Florida. They were also traveling to Alaska.

Bob and I took the Honda and drove around town. The town is the site of Williams Lake Stampede. The local museum has the BC Cowboy Hall of Fame as well as other local memorabilia.

We stopped in the museum after we hiked almost 3 miles of the multi-use Lake to River Trail. We didn’t walk the whole trail as it would have been 12 miles! The trail goes from Williams Lake to the Fraser River. We chatted with a local who was walking her dogs. She complained that the weather was already too hot for her! Bob and I thought it was a perfect day—upper 60s with no wind! Earlier in the day, we wore our hooded sweatshirts!

After a night at Signal Gaming, we were once again on the road—it seems that we are traveling all the time—but then we weren’t even halfway to WhiteHorse, Yukon!
