Blomidon Provincial Park, but First a Detour!

When we left Sociables, we thought we had a short drive to Blomidon Provincial Park, but we were wrong. Along the way, we found two places where we could stop and view the tides! The first was East Hants where the Shubencadie River meets the Minas Basin. It was low tide and the tide was beginning to rise. Later in the summer, local outfitters offer 'ride the tide' where they suit you up in a wetsuit and you wait with them in a rubber raft so you can ride the tide as it rises and meets the river.

When we went in the visitor center, the docent gave us a list of lighthouses in Nova Scotia and told us not to miss Burncoat Head. Yes, she said there was plenty of room for us to park our rig and it was only 20 minutes out of our way. Well, yes, there was plenty of room for us to park, but it was NOT just 20 minutes out of our way....it was more like an hour by the time we got back to the main road. But is was worth the extra time. The lighthouses on the western side of Nova Scotia are not like American lighthouses....these are not very tall and the keeper lives in the house below the lighthouse. . This lighthouse is a replica of the original.

As you can see from our view at the top of the light house, there was plenty of room in the parking lot for Sol.

We walked down to see the tide continue to rise by the rocks.

It was a beautiful day as most have been since we arrived in Canada....partly cloudy skies and a bit cool.

It was time to get a bite to eat and move on toward Blomidon!
