I don't know how many car/RV washes there are in Tok, but I counted 3 on the main highway into town. The population of Tok is only 1435!
The end of the Alaska Highway is in Delta Junction, Alaska. This mile marker in Tok shows the distance from Dawson Creek, British Columbia.
We spent the night behind the Shell Station in Tok after seeing the sites of Tok....not many. The next day we were going to go to Valdez, but the weather forecast for Valdez was for cold and 3-5 inches of snow! We drove to Glenallen and then turned toward Anchorage. We stopped for the night near Nilchina glacier. All of the rest areas where we wanted to stop were closed so we picked a pull-out on the side of the road where both rigs would fit. The road from Tok to Glenallen was full of frost heaves and the going was slow.
We passed some interesting areas north of Glenallen with a view of Cobb Lakes and the Wrangell Mountains.
The next day, we passed Nilchina Glacier, Tazlina Glacier and the largest one close to the road Matanuska!
From our stop at Matanuska, it wouldn't be far to Anchorage. The road was improved in places and was much nicer than the roads the day before!
Well, I thought the roads would be nice all the way to Anchorage. But, no, there was road construction just out of Palmer. It was one lane dirt with a serious drop-off on Bob's side!
What a relief to get to Anchorage where we would recuperate from the long, harrowing drives. Time to do laundry and stock the RV fridge and pantry! I think maybe we should stay at least a week!
