Ken's Lake Camground, Spanish Valley, Utah

We didn't have far to go from Goosenecks to Ken's Lake. Even with the stop to dump tanks and fill with fresh water, we arrived in early afternoon. The sites are first come, first serve and we had our choice of several large sites. We chose site 26. We had a view of the snow covered La Sal Mountains.
We chose to drive straight into our site since there were no hook-ups and the picnic area/fire pit would have been on the wrong side if we had backed Sol into the site.
The first night we had a gorgeous sunset. And it was the only one while were were there! We also never saw the snow covered mountains until the day we departed for Arches. Yes, it was cloudy, rainy, and a bit chilly during our four day stay.
Since the weather wasn't cooperating, we decided to go driving our first full day at Ken's Lake. We drove to Canyonlands National Park Island in the Sky unit. We have been to the Needles unit, but this was our first visit to Island in the Sky. It is southwest of Moab, Utah. The drive to the park passes through BLM land with many overlooks and campgrounds along the way.
After a quick visit to the visitor center ,which was crowded, we drove around the park to see the sights. This viewpoint is directly across from the visitor center.
The views were grand and we both named this park our favorite national park--at least for the day.
The views rival Grand Canyon. Green River and Colorado River cut paths through the landscape from the northern part of the park.
The two rivers confluence in the Maze unit of the park--you can only get to that unit by boat or by hiking.

As usual, we enjoyed climbing the rocks to see the view!
Everywhere we stopped, we were amazed by the views.
After a long day of sightseeing, it was back to Moab for lunch at the Moab Brewery.  Bob and I visited it on a previous trip to Moab. The beer was good, but the food was so-so.

We returned to Sol to plan our next day. After viewing the weather report, we decided it would be laundry day! The forecast was for clouds and rain. The local laundromat was busy, but we were able to get our clothes done and we headed back to Sol for lunch.

Our last full day at Ken's Lake found us heading south to do a couple of geocaches and to check out Needles Overlook and Anticline Overlook.

Bob and I walked around the area, enjoying the view before moving on to Anticline Overlook.

As we drove down the gravel road toward Anticline, we came upon a herd of prong-horned antelope. When we first saw them, one was sitting in the middle of the road.
As we slowly approached, they all moved off in to the field---the La Sal Mountains were a great backdrop.
When we reached Anticline Overlook, we once again had a fantastic view.
Yes, those are 4-wheel drive vehicles in the center right picture.

On our drive out of BLM area we spotted this sign and found the rock formation at the edge of the cliff!

We enjoyed our stay at Ken's Lake. It was a good base for us to explore the area around Moab, Utah. Our next adventure awaits--Arches National Park!
