Tinker Air Force Base

We camped at Tinker Air Force Base near Oklahoma City four nights (Wednesday-Sunday). Thursday morning we made a run to the BX and commissary to pick up perishable items that we needed. The BX and commissary were some of the nicest we've visited.
Tinker is a very active base with AWACs doing touch and go landings all day. There were also many Navy planes at Tinker.
A paved trail wanders through base. One area has an urban wildlife management area. We walked a portion of the trail Thursday afternoon.

Friday we went geocaching at Lake Stanley Draper--an Oklahoma City Park. We had clues for 7 caches, but only found 6 as it started to rain. The wind was already blowing, putting a good chill in the air.

One cache we found was unique. We found it near the base of the tree near us. Usually caches are in the trees, but this one was different as you can see.
The rock.......
The cache....
Saturday was a miserable day. It was rainy and very windy. We were originally going to head west on Saturday, but driving the rv in a strong wind is not fun so we extended for a day.

We visited downtown Oklahoma City. We wanted to see Bricktown and the Canal which is billed as similar to San Antonio's River Walk. The only similarity we found was water. Nothing was open! There were restaurants, clubs, and a few stores. The city's baseball park is there and during the winter months they have a snow tubing business to occupy the space. We were disappointed with the area--it could have been so much more.

Our next stop was Crossroads Mall. At least that would be indoors and dry. When we arrived in the parking lot, we knew we were in oil country.

Sunday we headed west toward Amarillo, Texas.

Wow! Looks like you guys are having a great time. You know who isn't having a great time? Yeah that would be me! The Broncos just lost to the Raiders (WHO loses to the RAIDERS?) and I have to go to work tomorrow...you two remember work?

Continue taking pictures so that I can live through them. I will give Vanessa the blog site so she can be jealous also!
Love ya,
Jen
