On the Road in Oklahoma

Okay, the next few days were travel days. We only stayed one night at each park. The first stop was Osage Cove Corps of Engineer Campground near Ponca City, Oklahoma. All I can say is the weather did not cooperate. The afternoon was fine, Chris and DeAnna even went swimming in the lake.
But that night the weather was vicious--thunderstorms and wind!

The following day we again hit the road and made it to Fort Supply, Oklahoma. As we checked into the campground, the hosts told us of the severe weather 2 nights before that brought hurricane force winds. Well, we got to experience another storm, but not quite so bad. This one did have some very small hail.

Once again, we left the following morning headed toward Colorado. Now you would think the storms would have brought cooler weather, but noooooo! It only got hotter. We drove a full day and made it to Colorado. We stopped a the welcome center to gather information on the area we were going to visit. We took advantage of a photo op outside the visitor center.

Our next stop was a side trip to Bent's Fort. We arrived late in the afternoon and just had time to tour the fort.
We enjoyed the history of the area.
At five o'clock, the rangers asked Chris and DeAnna to help with taking down the colors.
That night we boondocked at a fishing area on Lake Henry.
You guessed it, the next morning we were on the road again. This time headed to Royal Gorge near Canon City, Colorado.
