On to Siloam Springs

It is only a hop, skip and a jump from Russellville, Arkansas to Bob's parent's house in Siloam Springs, Arkansas. Well, actually it was 146 miles, but that seemed like a short trip compared to our other driving days this trip. We did make a stop on the way at Wiedeker Winery to get Bob's mom two of her favorite wines. Once in Siloam, we parked the RV in their driveway and were ready to spend a week.

We couldn't stop our daily walks so it was off to walk the path around John Brown University. From Bob and Dot's house it is about 3 miles round trip.

On Tuesday, Bob and his dad worked on the installation of our new auxiliary braking system for our car. It took them the entire day to get it installed, but it is in and working fine.

Wednesday, Bob and his dad played golf while Dot went to play bridge. I had the house to myself so I got our laundry done. Each evening, Bob and I walked to the casino. I don't know if I will jinx us, but we are $13 ahead on the slots.

Thursday Bob and I wanted to get more walking in so we started off with the John Brown walk then made a turn to look for a couple of geocaches and then took a different route back. We ended up walking a little over five miles!

Friday was a cold day so we didn't plan much. Bob's dad decided we needed to go to Bentonville to tour Sam Walton's first store. It was an interesting trip which we ended with a first Friday root beer float at the soda fountain in the 'store.'  It seems that the first Friday of each month vendors set up booths around the square in Bentonville. Since the weather was questionable, there weren't many vendors set up when we were there.

Saturday turned out to be a fantastic day so Bob and I drove south of Siloam Springs to Lake Weddington in the Ozark National Forest. There is a long trail there and we wanted to hike and geocache at the beginning of the trail.

The signs of spring were evident on most of North Twin hiking trail.
Once again, this trail was one that we enjoyed hiking. It started going up and then down a ravine, finally traversing the ridge until it came to another ravine.
Unlike Lost Bluff Trail in Mississippi which had stairs, this trail had gentle switchbacks to get down the slopes.
As we hiked, we looked for some geocaches.
As Bob looked around the base of this rock, I found an easy way up the back. The geocache was located under the ledge on the top!
This area of the trail changed from ravines to rocky cliffs. We had a good time going up, down and around the rocks.
By the time we finished this hike, we had gone over 6.5 miles! Like I said, this was only a portion of the trail. I think the trail is about 14 miles altogether.

Our time in Siloam Springs is drawing to an end and we will hit the road Monday. We plan to stop somewhere in Kansas the first night as there are several things we want to see.
