Lake Eufaula State Park, Oklahoma

After leaving MCD Innovations, we headed north into Oklahoma to Lake Eufaula State Park. It is a nice park with hiking trails. We last visited the park in 2011. There haven't been many changes since our last visit.We planned to spend two nights in the park before we made our way to Siloam Springs, Arkansas. As you can see, we had a nice long pull through. Since the park is on a lake, we thought the campground would fill up for the weekend, but it didn't come close.

The following morning, Bob and I hiked the trail to Hummingbird Beach. Near a bench on the trail, we found a geocache just laying on the ground....no, we weren't geocaching, but we did sign the log and put it in a safer location.

Not far from the geocache we ran into a snake on the trail. It seemed to be injured and wasn't moving--we found out later it was a cottonmouth!

That evening we hunkered down and debated on going to the concrete block restrooms or staying in Sol--yes, thunderstorm, tornado, and hail warnings were in effect for over 10 hours. We were able to get a local television station that was giving minute by minute coverage. We made the decision to stay in Sol with all the slides in. It wasn't until a few hours later that we realized we had power and no one else did! Sooooo glad we have the solar panels!

The next morning we carefully walked around the campground--a few limbs were down, but nothing in our site! We made our way to the dump station and then it was on to Siloam Springs!

As a side note, we did not have Internet while in the park. Every time we tried to connect our hotspot to get data we received the message: ROAMING INTERNATIONALLY, DATA COSTS PER MEGABYTE WILL BE ADDED TO YOUR BILL! Evidently the local carriers had a contract with Verizon for phone and text access, but not data!
