Spokane, Washington---a New Favorite!

From the casino in Montana to Fairchild AFB, near Spokane, Washington was a good day's drive for us....not in the sense that it took us a day, but that it was less than 200 miles which suits us just fine. Once we got set up we explored the base and did a little shopping. The camp host gave us a lot of material on Spokane and we spent the evening looking it over.

Sunday morning we drove into Spokane, found a parking spot, and walked around Centennial Park. The Spokane River flows through the cite and there are waterfalls along the way.
Several pedestrian bridges cross the river in different places.
This bridge near the lower falls is  for autos crossing the river.
Bob and I found a geocache on the big red wagon! I had to be real careful getting the cache and putting it back. It was a popular slide. I think Chris, DeAnna, and Sydney would like this playground!
The clock tower stands across the river from the playground. In 1974 Spokane hosted the World's Fair--it was the first with an environmental theme. The riverside park was the centerpiece of the Expo.
There is an island in the river dedicated to our friend and neighbor, Canada.
Bob and I enjoyed walking around the city before having lunch in a local pub. We split a paddle of beer.

Bob had trouble deciding which one was his favorite. I, personally, liked the one on the left---Moose Drool.
It was time to go back to the RV and make an agenda for the next few days. Monday was one of those days where we had to catch up on the dreaded laundry. The FamCamp had 3 washers and 3 dryers, but one washer was out of order so it took us most of the day to get laundry done--that was almost 3 weeks worth of laundry, so it had to be done. After laundry was done we took off on our bicycles and explored the paved paths on the base. We ended up with about 4 miles of bike riding.

Tuesday it was time to ride on the Centennial Trail. The bike trail stretches from the Idaho border to a point northwest of Spokane in Riverside State Park. We thought we would ride on the west part of the trail, but found out we needed a Washington Discover Pass to be able to park at the trailhead.  I used the phone to find out where we could purchase the pass---WalMart! So we purchased the pass and went back to the trailhead near Veterans Cemetery. After riding about a mile,  Bob looked at the terrain and thought we might want to go east of Spokane where the trail wouldn't have so many hills. I have to say it was a good decision.

We put the bikes back on the car and took off for Mirabeau Park Trailhead.  It was a perfect place to ride! We had great views of the river.
The trail is paved from start to finish. We stopped and had a snack before turning around and heading back to the car.
Of course, the wildflowers are in bloom all around Spokane.
Wednesday was a down day for us. The temperatures were going to be in the low 60s, but the wind was a huge factor. So, we went bowling. Bob and I had the place all to ourselves! I have to say, he was a show-off in the first game starting with a turkey!
We had a good time bowling---we do it every now and then, but my score never shows it! Then it was time for some grocery shopping at the commissary then back to the RV to plan for our next few days in Spokane.
